Press Release

Eloqua’s Steve Woods Honored by Frost & Sullivan

September 15, 2009

Vienna, VA - Eloqua’s outstanding work and leadership in building the marketing automation industry is being recognized by Frost & Sullivan. During the firm’s annual Growth, Innovation and Leadership: A Frost & Sullivan Global Congress on Corporate Growth event currently taking place at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona, Eloqua’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and co-founder, Steve Woods, will be presented with the prestigious 2009 Frost & Sullivan Award for Customer Innovation.

Frost & Sullivan's Customer Service Innovation Award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has demonstrated significant excellence in innovation. Steve Woods was designated for his exceptional contributions to the industry and his many accomplishments, including his book “Digital Body Language: Deciphering Customer Intentions in an Online World.”

“Steve’s accomplishments exemplify the criteria upon which we select honorees for this award,” said Frost & Sullivan Chairman Mr. David Frigstad. “We seek to recognize companies or individuals that have developed and implemented new customer care systems that set unprecedented best practices for customer interaction, timely response, and/or attention to customer needs. It is clear that Steve’s contributions and innovations have greatly impacted and propelled the industry.”

“Digital Body Language” is a thoughtful and groundbreaking book that helps B2B marketing professionals understand the new dynamics of marketing complex products and services. It explores how technology is automating B2B marketing and transforming it into a more analytical and measurable process. The term “digital body language” was coined by Eloqua to help B2B marketing professionals understand the online behavior of prospects, how to interpret the behaviors within the sales cycle and when to take action. Just as it used to be crucial for a salesperson to understand a prospect's body language in order to close a deal successfully, it is equally critical and possible to read a prospects' digital body language by means of their use and movements through the company's Internet resources such as Web site, downloads, email responses and webinars.

Judging Criteria

After identifying nominees, Frost & Sullivan analysts evaluate them based on such factors such as social impact, overall market growth and penetration, profit margins, growth in market share, stock price and overall industry impact. Specific criteria are then applied to determine the final ranking and award recipient. Frost & Sullivan’s senior management team makes the final determination based on objective and subjective criteria that includes the following:

  • Impact of innovation as demonstrated in 2008
  • Impact on society, an organization and/or contribution to company financial results
  • Restructuring or creation of innovation strategies to grow market share (i.e., through the effective development and implementation of an innovative business model)
  • Dynamic leadership and decision-making that has profoundly affected his/her industry
  • Ability to increase value as perceived by stakeholders (e.g., consumers, suppliers, shareholders, etc.)
  • Degree of industry participation and influence on the market as a result of innovative actions
